ZKsync Issues Ultimatum to Hackers: Return 90% of Stolen Funds or Face Legal Action
ZKsync, a layer 2 blockchain platform, has given hackers a 72-hour deadline to return 90% of teh stolen funds. The ZKsync Security Council made this announcement via an onchain message and their official account.
The team is offering a 10% bounty for cooperation. This move aims to resolve the issue amicably. On April 15, ZKsync confirmed that $5 million worth of ZK tokens were stolen from their admin wallet. The funds were from unclaimed tokens from a zksync airdrop.
Despite the hack, ZKsync assured users that their funds were safe. The protocol and ZK token contracts remained secure. The team is investigating the incident, and this announcement comes as ZK prices are rising.
The ultimatum requires the hacker to send 44,687,278.5988 ZK tokens and 1,021.3 Ethereum (ETH) to specified zksync Era addresses. They must also send 766 ETH to an Ethereum layer 1 address controlled by the ZKsync Security council.
If the hacker returns the full amount by the deadline, ZKsync will publicly confirm the resolution and close the case. However, if the hacker ignores the ultimatum, ZKsync will involve law enforcement.
