TaskUs Faces New Cryptocurrency Breach Lawsuit
An updated lawsuit now accuses U.S.outsourcing giant TaskUs of hiding crucial details about a Coinbase data breach. The amended complaint, filed recently, highlights TaskUs’s alleged role in underplaying insider involvement.
Ashita Mishra, a TaskUs employee, is central to an intricate conspiracy that targeted over 69,000 Coinbase users. Mishra and her unnamed accomplices reportedly sold leaked customer details to hackers. The criminals then impersonated Coinbase staff to exploit unsuspecting clients.
Mishra’s operation was well-structured. She reportedly took up to 200 photos daily containing critical Coinbase data, receiving $200 per photo. Her phone allegedly held private info on over 10,000 customers.
- Hackers paid Mishra and accomplices for stolen data.
- The group compromised thousands of Coinbase users.
- TaskUs allegedly failed to disclose its role in the breach to regulators.
TaskUs allegedly tried to cover up the incident by dismissing almost 300 employees in India and disbanding its HR team. The lawsuit claims this silence was meant to hide the extent of the breach.
In its defense, Coinbase noted compensating affected users and severing ties with TaskUs while bolstering security measures. However, the breach has still raised major concerns about identity theft and phishing risks for victims.
additional findings point to a hacker group called “the Comm” as perhaps orchestrating the entire scheme.
