Trump Invites Bukele to White House: Discussing Security, Bitcoin, and Trade
President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele for a White House meeting on April 14. The agenda includes border security, criminal repatriation, and possibly Bitcoin.
The invitation stems from a mutual admiration between the two leaders. Trump praised Bukele’s efforts in combating gang violence and handling deported criminals. In a letter shared by Bukele on X, Trump commended his use of el Salvador’s supermax prison for gang members. Bukele responded positively, expressing gratitude for Trump’s support.
Bukele’s tough stance on crime, including jailing nearly 2% of el Salvador’s population, has won him high approval ratings. His approach has also secured millions in U.S. funds. Hosting deported criminals has further strengthened his relationship with Trump’s base.
Bitcoin could be another topic of discussion.El salvador holds over 6,100 BTC, and Trump’s management recently set up a National Bitcoin Reserve. This shared interest might lead to talks on digital asset regulations and financial cooperation.
Beyond security and Bitcoin, Bukele may seek economic benefits. With Trump tariffs in place, Bukele’s administration might push for reduced tariffs on Salvadoran exports. Improved trade terms could substantially benefit El Salvador’s economy, which relies heavily on textiles and agricultural products.
