Fidelity Launches Crypto IRA for U.S. Investors
Fidelity Investments has unveiled a new individual retirement account (IRA) that lets U.S. adults invest in cryptocurrency without fees. This financial giant, managing over $6 trillion, now includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin in its retirement portfolio.
The crypto IRA offers tax-free (Roth) and tax-deferred (traditional and rollover) options. While there are no account maintainance fees, Fidelity charges a 1% spread on crypto transactions. This move caters to the rising demand for digital assets in retirement planning.
Fidelity stores most assets in cold wallets for security. Clients can manage their investments via Fidelity’s platform, blending crypto with traditional assets. However, availability varies by state.
Fidelity has been expanding its crypto services. It already offers Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs and is exploring a solana ETF listing. There are also rumors about Fidelity launching its own stablecoin.
Investors can access these digital assets in a tax-advantaged manner.
This initiative reflects a trend of traditional finance integrating crypto. As more asset managers introduce crypto-based retirement options, Fidelity’s move could boost mainstream adoption of digital assets in long-term strategies.
