Ethereum’s Layer 1 to Scale Tenfold in a Year: Vitalik Buterin
at ETHGlobal Prague, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared exciting news. He announced that Ethereum’s Layer 1 is set for a major upgrade. the blockchain will scale about ten times over the next year. This is a significant step for the network.
Buterin stressed the importance of scaling safely. He said, “We aim to scale Layer 1 by 10x in the coming year.” This upgrade will enhance the network’s capacity. But it’s not just about speed. The goal is to balance scalability with decentralization.
After the upgrade, there will be a pause. This break will allow the team to assess the network’s health. Buterin explained, “It’s crucial to ensure we’re maintaining decentralization.” The pause will also give developers time to refine improvements.
Buterin spoke with cLabs CTO Marek Olszewski. He said the upgrade will benefit Layer 2 solutions. “Larger block sizes on Layer 1 create more space. This makes Layer 2 operations more secure and efficient,” he noted.
Ethereum’s native token, ETH, has seen little price movement. It gained 0.03% in the past 24 hours, trading above $2,500. Despite this, ETH is down 10% from its monthly high.
