U.S. Congress Embraces Bitcoin: lawmaker Invests in Crypto
Bitcoin has made its way into the U.S. Congress. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, has invested in Bitcoin through blackrock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust.Greene, known for her support of Donald Trump, bought between $15,000 and $50,000 worth of Bitcoin between March 3 and March 4. This data comes from public disclosures made on March 10.
Greene also invested in Tesla and Goldman Sachs. tesla is a company that holds Bitcoin, and Goldman Sachs is considering offering crypto services if regulators allow it. in total, Greene spent around $140,000, with the biggest chunk going too Bitcoin.
While the U.S. moves toward a national Bitcoin strategy,few lawmakers have BTC in their portfolios. Currently, Senators Cynthia Lummis and Ted Cruz, along with Representative barry Moore, are the onyl known members of Congress with Bitcoin exposure. Historically, Representatives bob Goodlatte and Madison Cawthorn also held BTC. Though, other lawmakers may have unreported Bitcoin investments through trusts or family accounts.
This move by Greene shows growing interest in Bitcoin among policymakers. It highlights the crypto’s increasing acceptance in conventional financial circles.
