Shardeum Sets Token Generation Event for May 2025
Shardeum, a layer 1 blockchain, is gearing up for its token generation event on May 5, 2025. Co-founded by Nischal Shetty, the creator of WazirX, this project has finally set a date. The proclamation came via an X post on April 17. The team promises more details on airdrops, token sales, and SHM listings soon.
This milestone is critically important for the platform, which has faced several delays. Initially, the mainnet launch was planned for April 15 but was pushed back due to market conditions. The team believes this delay will lead to a stronger launch. The technology is ready, but they want better market timing.
Shardeum has been through a rigorous development process. It ran multiple testnets like “Liberty,” “Sphinx,” and “Atomium.” These tests helped it handle over 81 million transactions with 171,000 validators. The project aims to reward early supporters with a three-phase airdrop. Over 3.6 million SHM tokens will go to developers, community members, and validators. The SHM token will power governance, staking, and gas payments. A deflationary model will burn all transaction fees. The total supply is capped at 508 million SHM, with half reserved for the community.
