Pakistan Allocates 2,000 MW for Bitcoin Mining and AI Centers
Pakistan aims to allocate 2,000 megawatts of electricity for Bitcoin mining and AI data centers. This move is the first step in the country’s digital infrastructure plan, as reported by Reuters. It is indeed supported by the finance ministry and the Pakistan Crypto Council.
The ministry believes this initiative will help utilize excess electricity productively. This will aid the growth of technology-driven industries. The crypto council, formed earlier this year, is leading this initiative. The council is in talks with the power minister to attract global crypto miners to Pakistan.
The country’s energy sector faces pressure due to high tariffs and excess generation. The expansion of solar power has made the situation complex. More consumers are turning to choice energy sources to save costs. Hence, the need for electricity for Bitcoin mining and AI centers will put this excess capacity to use.
The Pakistan Digital Assets Authority will regulate the growing crypto sector. The finance minister stated that Pakistan should not just catch up but lead in this field. CEO of the Pakistan Crypto council sees it as a high-growth opportunity for Pakistan.
