OpenAI Surpasses $10 Billion in Annual Revenue, Led by ChatGPT Success
OpenAI has achieved a important milestone, crossing $10 billion in annual recurring revenue. This growth is largely due to the popularity of its ChatGPT chatbot and other business products.CNBC reports that OpenAI reached this mark in under three years since ChatGPTS launch in november 2022.
The revenue includes income from ChatGPT’s consumer and enterprise versions, and also API services. Though, the actual figure might be higher, as it excludes licensing fees from Microsoft and one-off deals.
Despite this remarkable growth, openai still faces profitability challenges. The company reported a $5 billion loss in the same period, highlighting the high costs of developing AI models and infrastructure.
OpenAI’s revenue milestone supports its high valuation. The company raised $40 billion in a funding round earlier this year and is now valued at about 30 times its current revenue.
Looking ahead, OpenAI aims for even greater success. It reportedly targets $125 billion in revenue by 2029. As of March 2025, the company had 500 million weekly active users and 3 million paying business customers, up from 2 million just months earlier.
