Ethereum Foundation Pauses Grants for Strategic Transition
The Ethereum Foundation has put a temporary hold on grant applications to revamp its support system for the Ethereum ecosystem.
On August 29, the Ethereum Foundation stated that the Ecosystem Support Program is undergoing a important change. Launched in 2018, the program originally focused on providing grants, with over $13 million distributed to 105 projects last year alone.
This shift comes following a thorough restructuring of the Ethereum Foundation in June 2025. Efforts to enhance efficiency and effectiveness are now central to the foundation’s mission.
A major goal of the new funding model is to better mirror the rapid growth of Ethereum. With more than $91 billion tied up in decentralized finance and over $148 billion in stablecoins, a proactive funding strategy is crucial.
“By pausing open grant applications, we’re taking time to create a new direction that will improve our strategic impact ” said the Ecosystem Program Support team.
- Past projects supported include Commit-Boost, BundleBear, Web3Bridge, and Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress.
- Even with closed applications, current beneficiaries remain supported by the Ethereum Foundation.
More details on the new approach and streamlined goals will appear in Q4 of 2025, the Ethereum Foundation promises.
