Conor McGregor Sees Cryptocurrencies as tools for Government accountability
Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has shared his thoughts on cryptocurrencies, particularly Bitcoin, and their potential role in ensuring government clarity. On May 12, McGregor, who has declared his intention to run for the Irish presidency, posted on X about the benefits of cryptocurrencies.
McGregor believes that Bitcoin is an “immutable” currency that can empower people. He sees various clear and trustless applications within the crypto space. “Bitcoin or cryptocurrency? I can see lots of transparent and trustless applications within crypto. And I can see an immutable people’s money with Bitcoin,” McGregor stated.
He also asked X users which cryptocurrencies could help bring accountability to governments. This sparked a discussion with crypto industry leaders like Charles Hoskinson and Stephen Cole. Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, responded positively, while Cole,co-founder of Orqestra, emphasized Bitcoin’s social decentralization.
McGregor’s crypto venture, REAL, faced setbacks with a failed pre-sale. Though, he remains optimistic about crypto’s potential. if elected, McGregor might adopt a crypto-friendly approach, similar to his political ally, Donald Trump.
McGregor’s political leanings align with far-right movements, and his recent White House appearance with Trump suggests a shared stance on immigration policies. Despite the challenges with REAL, McGregor’s interest in crypto remains strong, and he plans to relaunch the token soon.
