Cloudflare Introduces NET Dollar for AI-powered Transactions
Cloudflare is set to launch NET Dollar, a stablecoin designed to revolutionize payments for AI agents. This U.S. dollar-backed digital currency aims to facilitate instant, global microtransactions.
Cloudflare’s CEO, Matthew Prince, believes that traditional banking systems and first-generation crypto payments are too slow and expensive for the emerging AI-driven economy. The company’s global network, which already handles a significant portion of internet traffic, will support this new payment system.
NET Dollar will enable automated settlements for various services, from real-time flight bookings to supplier payments. This aligns with cloudflare’s vision of a pay-per-use internet, where value is exchanged in small, incremental payments.
Cloudflare is not alone in this endeavor. The company is contributing to open standards like the Agent Payments Protocol and x402, alongside other major players such as google. Google’s recent demo with Coinbase and Lowe’s showcases the potential of this future.
Cloudflare’s NET dollar aims to modernize financial infrastructure, making transactions as fast and reliable as data transmission. This shift coudl unlock new possibilities for creators and developers, moving away from the limitations of the old web’s business model.
