Zeekr and Minima Team Up for Blockchain-Powered Charging Solutions
Chinese electric car maker Zeekr is partnering with Minima to create a secure charging reservation system. This collaboration aims to enhance access to charging stations for electric vehicle (EV) owners.
Minima, a decentralized blockchain network, will integrate its technology into Zeekr’s wallboxes. This integration allows EV owners to share their chargers through a blockchain booking system. Consequently, Zeekr drivers can reserve charging slots, potentially increasing the availability of or else unused charging stations.
Hugo Feiler, co-founder and CEO of Minima, stated, “Our partnership with Zeekr demonstrates how blockchain can solve real-world challenges. It brings more adaptability, security, and convenience to the EV ecosystem.”
The system uses Minima’s network to create a secure access control token. This digital key ensures only authorized users can access the charger while maintaining privacy.
A standout feature is its offline functionality. Even without internet, transactions can continue using local connections like Bluetooth. This ensures uninterrupted charging in various environments.
Zeekr is the latest Chinese automaker to explore blockchain. In 2018, BYD announced plans to use the VeChainThor blockchain to track vehicle data across the automotive industry.
Minima’s solution could be a game-changer for EV charging infrastructure. It showcases the potential of blockchain in addressing real-world challenges and improving the EV ecosystem.
