Bitcoin Surges Past $118,000, Led by ETF Demand and Corporate Strategies
bitcoin (BTC) has reached new heights, soaring past $118,000. This surge isn’t due to customary factors like Federal reserve policies or stock market trends. Rather, it’s driven by spot ETF demand and corporate treasury strategies.
On July 11, BTC peaked at $118,872, marking a 3% daily gain. The rally isn’t just about BTC. Ethereum (ETH) also surged 7%, hitting $3,000 for the first time since February. Other altcoins, including Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB), are following suit with meaningful gains. Analysts attribute this to spot ETFs and corporate treasury moves. Kraken’s global economist, Thomas Perfumo, notes that over $1 billion in short positions were liquidated in 24 hours. This indicates strong market confidence. Bitcoin’s dominance is slightly down, showing altcoins are also thriving. ETH, DOGE, and SHIB are leading the charge.
Perfumo explains that Bitcoin is breaking free from its usual trading range. The market is exploring new price levels. ETF inflows are key drivers.
Spot ETFs are a major factor. On July 12, Bitcoin ETFs saw their largest inflows of the year, reaching $1.18 billion.Ethereum ETFs also performed strongly, with $383 million in inflows. These are direct investments in crypto assets, not speculative bets.
Nicolai Sondergaard, a researcher at Nansen, believes this rally is unique. “It’s not driven by macroeconomic factors but by internal market dynamics,” he said. Corporate strategies are also playing a role. Companies are increasingly using Bitcoin as a treasury asset, showing growing institutional trust.
Bitcoin’s ability to break through key levels and stay above them has sparked the rally. The question now is whether this momentum can be sustained. If so, it coudl mark a new era where crypto’s internal mechanisms, like ETF flows and corporate adoption, can support valuations independently. This could lead to a new market paradigm where crypto sets its own rules.
