AI Dominates Ransomware, but cyber Defenders Fight Back
A new OutreachX report reveals that 80% of ransomware attacks now involve artificial intelligence. This technology, including large language models and deepfakes, is making cybercrime more efficient and widespread.
However, the report also shows that cybersecurity experts are using AI to counter these threats. They are cutting costs, speeding up response times, and creating a high-stakes battle between AI-driven attacks and defenses.
By 2025, cybersecurity will be an AI versus AI contest. the OutreachX report notes that AI is a major factor in the rise of ransomware. In 2021, there were 7,850 attacks daily. This number is expected to reach 43,200 daily by 2031.
AI now plays a role in 80% of ransomware attacks.Deepfakes, such as, can create fake videos that are hard to spot. Victims can only identify AI-generated voices 60% of the time.
Companies are increasingly using AI tools to fight back. Machine learning can detect suspicious activity and automate phishing triage. This speeds up threat responses. IBM data shows that AI tools save $1.9 million per breach. By 2027, this could reach $10.4 billion.
Anirudh agarwal,CEO of OutreachX,says the key is reducing dwell time. When AI quickly detects and contains threats, it leads to fewer payouts and faster recovery. For mid-market teams, automating phishing triage and identity anomalies delivers the fastest return on investment.
