Coinbase Secures MiCA License, Expands Across EU
Coinbase has achieved a notable regulatory milestone. The cryptocurrency exchange now holds the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license. This license, granted by Luxembourg’s financial regulator, allows Coinbase to offer its services throughout the European Union.
With this license, Coinbase can provide a full range of crypto products to over 450 million EU citizens. The company’s European office has moved to luxembourg, a key financial hub. This move aligns with Luxembourg’s support for crypto innovation and regulatory clarity.
Previously, Coinbase had hubs in Ireland. now, it joins OKX and Bybit as MiCA-compliant providers. The MiCA framework came into effect in December 2024. It requires crypto platforms to secure approval. Some platforms had to delist non-compliant stablecoins during implementation.
Before MiCA, Coinbase secured licenses in several EU countries. These include Germany, France, and Spain. The MiCA license simplifies operations across these jurisdictions. It’s a major step for the exchange, enhancing its European presence.
