U.S. Commerce Secretary Backs Bitcoin’s Future in America
Howard Lutnick, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, believes Bitcoin has a bright future in the U.S.In a recent interview with Bitcoin Magazine, he compared Bitcoin to gold, highlighting its scarcity as a key value driver.
Lutnick, a long-time Bitcoin supporter, started his journey with the cryptocurrency in 2017. He explained that Bitcoin’s limited supply of 21 million coins makes it rare and valuable. By 2020, he fully embraced Bitcoin, moving from studying blockchain to investing heavily in it.
Under the Trump administration,Lutnick is helping to change the government’s stance on bitcoin. Alongside David Sacks, he spearheaded the creation of a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve. This initiative aims to promote Bitcoin mining and innovation in the U.S.
One of Lutnick’s key projects is the ‘Investment Accelerator’ at the Commerce Department. This program helps large investments navigate regulations. For Bitcoin miners, it means building private power plants near their facilities, reducing reliance on public grids and using cheaper energy sources like hydroelectric power.
Lutnick believes this will boost Bitcoin mining in America. He also thinks a business-friendly environment for Bitcoin can benefit the economy and those left behind. “America is the best place for business,” he said. “Succeed here, and you’ll reach new heights.”
