Bankman-Fried is now at the Federal correctional Institution Terminal Island in Los Angeles. this move comes after spending nearly two weeks in the medium-security facility in Victorville, California. The new prison is about three hours away from his previous location.
Terminal Island has housed other notable inmates, such as mouli Cohen and anthony Elgindy, both convicted of fraud. The facility offers a law library, wellness programs, and various occupational training courses like welding and baking.
Bankman-Fried’s lawyers had been pushing for a transfer to a lower-security facility. They cited his lack of a criminal record and his autism as reasons. However, the federal Bureau of prisons has not disclosed the exact reason for the move.
Victorville, often called “victimville,” is infamous for gang violence, with fights and stabbings being common. In 2013, three inmates were convicted of second-degree murder for beating another inmate to death. In 2017, an inmate was convicted of attempted murder for stabbing a warden.
