SEC Approves Options Trading for Ethereum ETFs
Teh U.S. Securities adn Exchange Commission (SEC) has given the green light for options trading on spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (etfs). This move was expected, as per industry analysts.
Options let traders bet on future asset prices without owning them. Now, investors can use this tool with Ethereum ETFs. approved ETFs include BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust and Bitwise Ethereum ETF.
James Seyffart, a Bloomberg ETF analyst, said the approval was anticipated. Nate Geraci, president of The ETF Store, expects new ETFs with options-based strategies soon.
Spot ETH ETFs were approved last year and have seen $2.34 billion in net inflows. This new approval coudl boost the Ethereum market, which has faced volatility.
Ethereum’s price fell 45% in the first quarter, losing $170 billion in value. Analysts have lowered their year-end price target from $10,000 to $4,000 due to competition from layer-2 solutions.
However, the recent approval of staking in ETH ETFs could help the price recover.Staking locks down supply, increasing demand and potentially raising prices.
Both the new York Stock Exchange and the Chicago Board Options exchange have filed proposals. The SEC’s decision deadline is set for late October.
With crypto-friendly Paul Atkins as the new SEC chairman,ETF innovation, including staking, may accelerate.
