Bitcoin Billionaire Faces Arrest for Skipping Court
Kevin Segal, a man claiming to be a Bitcoin billionaire, is now a fugitive. He missed a court hearing after a friend posted his $50,000 bond. Prosecutors say Segal swindled Wyoming businesses out of over $212,000.
Segal, a 30-year-old from California, faces up to 141 years in prison if convicted.He allegedly posed as a wealthy businessman trying to buy real estate in Jackson hole. However, he left unpaid bills at luxury resorts and businesses.
Jason Irvine,who posted Segal’s bond,said he maxed out three credit cards to help a supposed friend. Segal promised Irvine a large Bitcoin payout but vanished after being released from jail on February 14.
Segal’s fraudulent activities were widespread in Wyoming. he stayed at the Amangani resort with his mother and a friend, leaving a $2,725.76 bill unpaid. At Spring Creek Ranch, he used three fraudulent cards for over $22,000 in bills.
Segal also scammed individuals. He hired a man to buy a DJI drone in Colorado, promising reimbursement. The check he wrote for $3,281.46 bounced. In another case, he sent a delivery man to drive a Dodge back to Los Angeles, promising to pay for return flights that were never purchased.
This isn’t Segal’s first legal trouble.Court documents show he previously faced a civil lawsuit for falsely claiming to have stocks exceeding $340 million.If caught, Segal will face a $750,000 cash-only bond.
