CME Group Expands Options Trading to Solana and XRP
CME Group, the world’s largest derivatives exchange, has introduced options for Solana and XRP. This move, effective October 13, is fully regulated by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Traders can now access regulated derivatives for these altcoins. The options are physically settled and come in standard and micro sizes. They have daily, monthly, and quarterly expirations. This expansion mirrors the existing Bitcoin and Ethereum options on the CME platform.
Before this, only futures for Solana and XRP were available. The decision follows strong trading volumes in these altcoin futures. Since March, Solana futures have seen over 540,000 contracts traded, worth $22.3 billion. XRP futures, as May, have traded 370,000 contracts, valued at $16.2 billion.
This growth in liquidity encouraged CME to expand investor access. The addition of options trading is expected to boost activity for solana and XRP.
Blue-chip altcoins like Solana and XRP have shown resilience. They were among the first to recover after the $1 trillion crypto market crash. CME’s expansion signals growing institutional interest in these altcoins.
