New Collaboration Advances Blockchain Technology
Columbia Engineering and the Ethereum Foundation have joined forces to create a new blockchain research center. The partnership aims to boost the advancement of blockchain infrastructure and protocols.
The Ethereum Foundation has pledged $6 million to fund the project. columbia Engineering plans to utilize these funds for various research activities and operations.
Leading the initiative will be Tim Roughgarden, a renowned blockchain protocol expert and computer science professor. He will oversee the center’s efforts, which will offer opportunities for academic exploration of blockchain tech.
Shih-Fu Chang, Dean of Columbia Engineering, expressed excitement about the collaboration.He believes uniting experts from diverse fields will foster groundbreaking developments in the blockchain realm.
In addition to Ethereum’s financial backing, the center will receive a $1.5 million philanthropic donation. These funds will support research projects, training programs, and fellowship opportunities.
The center’s research will encompass several disciplines, including computer science, engineering, policy, and economics. Each summer, the center will host educational bootcamps for aspiring researchers.
Hsiao-Wei Wang, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, emphasized the importance of research and education in building a robust decentralized system. This partnership seeks to propel innovative concepts that will upgrade Ethereum’s infrastructure and fuel the broader blockchain ecosystem’s growth.
Recently, the Ethereum Foundation underwent restructuring to enhance its operations. Notably, it introduced a new roadmap and established the dAI Team for promoting AI adoption on Ethereum.
